Guatemala Decaf - espresso roast

from CHF 13.50

RECOMMENDED PREPARATIONS: Espresso, Milk Drinks, Fully-Automatic Machines, Bialetti

Let’s make decaf coffee tasty and fun. No matter why you’d like to go low on caffeine, we’ve got you covered. Expect a taste of milk chocolate, caramel and vanilla custard (think Crema Catalana) with high sweetness and a full body. Fantastic also for a tasty bedtime treat - sweet dreams included!

This coffee is roasted in our signature style: light enough to taste all the flavors, developed enough to be easily extracted.

If you were wondering how the caffeine leaves the coffee: The green coffee is first treated with steam to soften the surface and then placed into a pressurised container with supercritical CO2 (that’s when the CO2 is neither in gas nor liquid state). The sCO2 acts as a solvent and extracts the caffeine only, leaving all the tasty flavour compounds in the coffee beans.

We receive the decaffeinated green coffee in the same way that we receive our other coffees (green/unroasted) and roast them like the other beans containing caffeine. Through the treatment with steam, the surface of the beans is a bit “softer” and more porous than with un-decaffeinated beans which makes for a different roast curve. You may also observe that after a certain time, there are oils at the surface of the roasted beans that you would usually not see on our other coffees. This is an effect that stems from the decaffeination process and not from roasting or roast level.
