Newsletter September 2021 - English

Finally events and happenings are picking up again - we're super happy to be back in person, to meet up with you, have a chat and spread the coffee love!

With many events from spring and summer being rescheduled to the months of September and October, there are a few date conflicts happening. Alas, we can't be everywhere we'd like to be and we had to make some hard decisions.

Read on for the implications and appearances - in person and in coffee!

ROAST DAY UPDATE

Our regular Monday Roastday on September 6th will be postponed to Tuesday September 7th. That also means that the order deadline moves a day to Monday midnight.

SWISS COFFEE FESTIVAL 2021

3.-5. September 2021, Halle 622, Zurich

Finally, Swiss Coffee Festival is happening! Besides tasting coffee from various Swiss coffee roasters and checking out the newest gear and gadgets, you will be able to catch all the action of the first ever Swiss Coffee Challenge, where Baristas will master some out-of-the-box challenges in different disciplines including classic espresso service and manual brewing (we roasted some special coffees for both) as well as latte art and cupping. Try to get a taste of what will be on the Vertical Coffee shelf soon!

Unfortunately, as several events have been postponed to exactly this weekend, we will not be at the festival in person with our own booth but will be caffeinating athletes and spectators at Ironman Switzerland in Thun.

But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy our tasty coffee! Head right over to the Oatly booth where you will be able to get a taste of our Ethiopia Boji paired with the best oat milk alternative around or go to the Kialoa booth where they will be pulling tasty shots with some of our espresso roasts on the fantastic La Marzocco machines.

You will need to present a COVID Certificate at the entrance to the Coffee Festival - there will be a testing booth in front of the venue if you need to refresh the certificate or aren't vaccinated or recovered.

MORE EVENTS

We're super happy that most events are happening again, albeit with some limitations or restrictions. Most events require a valid COVID Certificate and extra sanitary measures but it means the world to us that we can meet up with you in person and spread the coffee love beyond our bubble.

Ironman Switzerland Thun, 3.-6. September

Up next will be Ironman Switzerland in scenic Bernese Oberland where we will not only be caffeinating the athletes but also spectators and supporters in the expo before the race (September 3rd/4th). We will be at the swim exit on race morning on September 5th until we relocate back to the expo at ca. 10am and additionally we'll be serving finish line coffee (including a decaf option) for the athletes until the last finisher arrives! As we'll be making coffee at the awards on Monday September 6th, we will need to move our roasting day from Monday to Tuesday.

Grinduro Unterägeri, 1.-3. October

If gravel riding is your thing, we've got two great events coming up: First there's Grinduro Switzerland from October 1st to 3rd in Unterägeri which is a 3-day gravel festival where there will be enduro style gravel racing/riding plus fine food (and drink and coffee!) plus music plus campsite vibes, all located around the beautiful Lake Aegeri.

Gravel Ride & Race Bern, 16. October

For the third year, Gravel Ride & Race is going down in the surrounding forests of our capital city. Next to riding or racing the course of your choice, you will have the possibility to test some new gravel bikes and grab tasty food & drinks. And of course: coffee!

FRESH ON THE COFFEE SHELF

Meanwhile the new Ethiopians have arrived and we've been roasting the fresh-crop natural Boji for a few weeks now. It has the full-on strawberry flavor notes and juicy punch we love in the natural Ethiopians!

On the filter front we introduced our new Central American filter - Colombia Serranía del Perijá. This coffee is from one of the lesser-known growing regions in the north of the country and cultivated by a group of women who are working towards better gender equity and ownership of their business. Not only is this coffee enhancing their livelihood - it also tastes fantastic and makes for a great choice for cold brew coffee.

As always, stay tuned for new coffees arriving at our roastery and making their way to the shop shelf!
